Important Changes to Mail Postmark Timing — What It Means for Your Water Bill
We want to make all our residents aware of an important change in postal processing that could affect when your water bill payment is received and credited.
Recent updates to postal handling procedures mean that mail is not always postmarked on the same day it is dropped off. In some cases, the official postmark may be applied up to two days after you place your payment in the mail.
What This Means for You:
If you typically mail your water bill close to the due date, this delay could result in your payment appearing late—even if you mailed it on time.
Since payment deadlines are based on the postmark date, not the drop-off date, this change may lead to unintended late fees.
All payments must have a postmark date no later than April 30, 2026. Any payments received by mail with a postmark date after April 30, must be returned to the sender unless the late charge is included with the payment.
To ensure your payment is received and credited on time, we recommend:
- Mail early: Send your payment at least 5–7 days before the due date.
- Use alternative payment options: Consider placing your payments in the drop box located in the Village Office, Clerk’s entrance, or pay in-person
- Verify due dates: Keep track of your billing cycle and allow extra time for postal delays.
We understand that this change may be inconvenient, and hope this alert will help you to avoid late fees.
Thank you for your attention to this important update and for helping us ensure timely processing of your payments.
