The Village of Stillwater was notified in September that it has been certified as a New York State Pro-Housing Community.

The New York State Pro-Housing Communities Program is a statewide initiative created by Gov. Hochul’s 2023 Executive Order to support and incentivize communities that are actively working to address New York’s housing crisis. The program recognizes municipalities that are committed to increasing housing supply, removing barriers to development, and implementing strategies to meet local housing needs.

Being designated as a Pro-Housing Community signals that a municipality is actively planning for and supporting sustainable housing growth.

As a reward for this designation, Pro-Housing Communities are granted exclusive access to up to $750 million in state discretionary funding including the Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI), NY Forward, Regional Council Capital Fund, and New York Main Street.

The Village of Stillwater joins 450 other municipalities across the state that have achieved Pro-Housing Community certification in the last three years.

Village Major Judith Wood Zeno said the village is proud of the recent certification and will actively work to seek out grant opportunities available for future village use under this new certification.
