The Village Board of Trustees has appointed Julianna Seabury as the new Village Historian effective September 1, 2026. She replaces Sara Kipp who resigned on July 1.
Seabury is a resident of Frog Island and her family has lived in the Stillwater/Mechanicville area since at least the 1700s. She is currently employed as a clerk at the Stillwater Public Library and is pursuing a Master of Arts degree in Public History.
Seabury says she has loved history from a young age largely from the influence of her mother and grandfather. She has always been drawn to researching lesser known stories that often go unnoticed in history books and traditional historical media. She also has a strong interest in genealogy and is currently helping her grandfather untangle and research his family history.
“I especially love and value learning about local history as it is what shapes our current community and daily lives, even though most people don’t recognize the deep influence it has,” she said. “Although a small community, Stillwater played and continues to play a vital role in the life of others, particularly in the history of the Revolutionary War, industrialization, and Indigenous influence. I deeply care about the impact ancestors have on our lives, and having rooted ties to the area myself makes the opportunity of contributing and sharing that history much more meaningful to me.”
