Congratulations to the Newland-Wood Fire Co. of the Stillwater Fire Department, which captured two awards Saturday at the 137th annual Hudson Valley Volunteer Firemen’s Association annual convention and parade.
The multi-day regional event was hosted by the Lake George Volunteer Fire Department and drew firefighters, families, and community members from all across the Hudson Valley, from the outer suburbs of New York City to the lower Adirondacks.
Stillwater’s Newland-Wood volunteer unit, which dates back to 1865, took home prizes in the dress parade for Best Appearing Fire Unit – Dress Uniform 6-15 in the Line of March and Second Place – Best Appearing Firematic Float for its historic antique button steamer.
The weekend event and competitions also featured a Mardi Gras-style parade Friday night with the theme “Happy Birthday America! 250 Years of Independence!” along with live music, a lake cruise, a memorial service, training and educational seminars and fireworks.
